Program: The Food Bank is this area’s primary hunger-relief organization. We provide food to any qualified non-profit agency in a six town area of Fairfield County (Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford and Wilton) that serves low income people through congregate meals or bags of groceries. These agencies include soup kitchens, homeless shelters, food pantries, child day care centers, after school programs, senior centers and rehabilitation programs.

The Food Bank is the only service of its kind in lower Fairfield County, Connecticut. We solicit, collect, sort, warehouse and distribute donated food from such sources as national manufacturers, Feeding America (formerly America’s Second Harvest), federal and state programs, Connecticut Food Bank, local merchants, state and local food drives and individuals. In addition, The Food Bank purchases rarely donated meat and poultry in bulk at very low cost for redistribution to member agencies. We store the food in our warehouse on Glenbrook Road in Stamford and distribute it to our member agencies that feed the hungry in our communities. Our member agencies “shop” at The Food Bank's warehouse on Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. They pay a shared handling fee of 19 cents a pound.

The Food Bank’s member agencies include Shelter For The Homeless in Stamford; Manna House Of Hospitality in Norwalk; Wilson Memorial Church Pantry in Stamford; Jewish Family Services in Stamford; Person To Person in Darien; Domus Foundation in Stamford; Christian Community Action in Norwalk; St. Luke’s Housing in Stamford; Faith Tabernacle Pantry in Stamford; Neighbor To Neighbor in Greenwich; and Domestic Violence Crisis Centers in Greenwich, Stamford, and Norwalk, to mention just a few.
