The Food Bank is very pleased to announce that a $5,000 grant was received from The Pitney Bowes Foundation. Pitney Bowes is one of The Food Bank's oldest supporters, donating to The Food Bank for more than 20 years. We are very proud to have the support of this pillar of the Stamford community.
Responding to the needs of this community, the employees of Nestle Waters North America Inc. in Stamford ran a very successful food drive in June, raising over 4,971 lbs. of food for The Food Bank, which will be distributed to pantries and other programs that serve those that are food insecure. The Food Bank thanks these Nestle Waters employees for making a difference.
The Food Bank is very pleased to announce that during June 2015, employees from the local offices of Aon Risk Services Inc., Ernst & Young, Morgan Stanley, Nestle Waters, KPMG, and Nielsen Company volunteered at The Food Bank’s offices and warehouse store. Volunteers from the Girl Scouts, First Presbyterian Church, St John's Lutheran Church, and St. Francis Episcopal Church also came in to help out.
These volunteers performed various tasks including conducting food drives, collecting food, shelving food, arranging inventory, planting bushes and shrubs, and painting walls and floors. We would like to thank all of the helping hands for their time and efforts. They did a great job!

Effective July 1, 2015, The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, in Stamford, became a food bank independent of the Feeding America network. This did not change The Food Bank’s mission to provide emergency food to its member agencies and programs for redistribution to those in need in this community. However, The Food Bank anticipates that it will require more donated food and additional funding to purchase food in order to meet demand.
Kate Lombardo, The Food Bank’s Executive Director, said, “It is my hope that, with the continued strong support of the people and stores in this community, The Food Bank will be able to meet the need for emergency food of thousands of people living below the poverty line in lower Fairfield County. Donations to The Food Bank will be used solely to support this community.”
The Food Bank is delighted to announce that Subaru of America, Inc. and Subaru Stamford raised $42,731 for The Food Bank through their 2014 Subaru “Share the Love” event. The event, which ran from Nov. 20, 2014 to Jan. 2, 2015, permitted those customers of Subaru Stamford who purchased or leased a new Subaru vehicle to select a charity from a list of The Food Bank and four national charities to receive a donation of $250 from Subaru of America, Inc.
The $42,731 check presentation took place on March 26, 2015, at Subaru Stamford and drew media coverage from News Channel 12. In discussing Subaru’s “Share the Love” event, George D’Angelo commented, “I'm proud over the outpouring of support our customers showed for our local charity. Subaru customers tend to be generous and caring of their community, and this certainly proves it. We at Subaru Stamford are grateful for the opportunity to give something back to the place where we work and live.”
"This wonderful donation will be used to further The Food Bank's mission of providing nutritious food to more than 83 non-profit member agencies in lower Fairfield County that feed over 150,000 individuals who are at or below H.U.D.'s low income limit," said Kate Lombardo, The Food Bank’s Executive Director. She added, “Last year we distributed 2,563,071 pounds of food to our member agencies at a cost savings of over three million dollars over the wholesale cost of the food.”
