Annual Easter Basket Drive For Children In Need

A local Easter tradition continues for the 15th consecutive year as SPLURGE partners with Kids In Crisis and The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County to collect filled Easter baskets for children in need. Located at 39 Lewis Street, SPLURGE provides a convenient downtown location for members of the community to donate filled Easter baskets now through Wednesday, April 13th. SPLURGE owner Sonia Sotire Malloy shared, “I’m excited to announce our 15th annual Easter basket collection for two amazing local organizations, Kids In Crisis and The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County. Last year we had an unprecedented outpouring of support from the community and collected nearly 300 Easter baskets for kids in need. Our generous customers, the local Girl Scouts and several local businesspeople got behind the effort and the results were remarkable. Since 2008, we have collected and donated over 1,700 baskets. Our 2022 goal is to collect 250 filled Easter baskets which will make the holiday joyful for many local children in need.”
Shari Shapiro, Executive Director of Kids In Crisis, says, “As a result of the pandemic, children's mental health is at a historic low. Sonia and her team at SPLURGE have brought the community together annually for 15 years, hosting and publicizing this event to collect Easter baskets for Kids In Crisis. This community effort brings joy and hope to the children in our emergency shelter, and we're profoundly grateful for the support.”
Kate Lombardo, Executive Director of The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County added, "The Easter baskets that Sonia and her team at SPLURGE collect and donate give the children hope and joy when everything around them seems so hopeless. They know someone cares. Thank you to SPLURGE’s customers for seeing the invisible and feeling the intangible."
Cellophane wrapped Easter baskets can be filled with items for children ages 2 to 17 and can include toys, journals, games, personal care items, gift cards, packaged healthy snacks and traditional Easter candy.SPLURGE is open Monday through Saturday 10am – 6pm and Sunday 12 – 5pm.
