What We Do

Our Mission

To serve as an efficient and effective provider of nutritious food to non-profit organizations that feed the hungry in Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford and Wilton, while seeking to raise awareness of, and promote action to combat, hunger in those communities.

Provide Food

We provide food for low-income residents of the six town area we serve through approximately 70 member agencies and programs.

Raise Awareness

Did you know it is estimated that in Fairfield County, a family of four (two adults and two children) needs an annual salary of about $91,000 to avoid being "food insecure?"

Promote Action

The efforts of our local businesses, churches and clubs helped feed almost 300,000 individuals in lower Fairfield County.

Our
Program

The Food Bank is one of this area’s primary hunger-relief organizations. We provide food to any qualified non-profit agency in a six town area of Fairfield County (Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford and Wilton) that serves low income people through congregate meals or bags of groceries. These agencies include soup kitchens, homeless shelters, food pantries, child day care centers, after school programs, senior centers and rehabilitation programs.

The Food Bank is the only food bank located in lower Fairfield County, Connecticut. We solicit, collect, sort, warehouse and distribute donated food from such sources as national manufacturers, local merchants, state and local food drives and individuals. In addition, The Food Bank purchases rarely donated meat and poultry in bulk at very low cost for redistribution to member agencies. We store the food in our warehouse store on Glenbrook Road in Stamford and distribute it to our member agencies that feed the hungry in our communities. Our member agencies “shop” at The Food Bank's warehouse store on Monday through Friday. They pay a shared maintenance fee of 19 cents a pound.

The Food Bank’s member agencies include Pacific House in Stamford; Malta House in Norwalk; New Covenant Center in Stamford; Jewish Family Services in Stamford; Person To Person in Darien, Norwalk and Stamford; Domestic Violence Crisis Centers in Stamford and Norwalk; The Salvation Army in Stamford; Inspirica in Stamford; Faith Tabernacle Pantry in Stamford; Neighbor To Neighbor in Greenwich; and Abilis in Stamford, Greenwich, and Norwalk to mention just a few.
